Mythforge - Weekly Devlog #10

Welcome to the tenth weekly devlog update of Mythforge

Stuff I've worked on in the past week:

  • Finished the Sevarog cutscene
  • Added "determined" state UI indicator
  • Fixed up a bug which would happen when the player spawned without using any checkpoints beforehand
  • Fixed the footstep particle scale to scale up and down according to character speed

Sevarog Cutscene

Finished the Sevarog cutscene by adding sound effects and some particle effects. It's not the perfect cutscene but perfecting it isn't my priority and I think it's enough for a demo right now.

Here is the current versions  video:

"Determined" UI Icon

I already wrote about the determined state UI icon in the last weeks devlog, and I managed to add it now. The triangle shape of the icon can be changed later to a more prettier image.

Here is a video showing the icon:

Respawn Bug

The player would spawn at the 0.0.0 location of the map when there were no used checkpoint before dying, which would lead to falling indefinitely. I've fixed it and now, when the players don't have a checkpoint, they will spawn at the default player start location of the map.

Footstep Particle Scale

Previously, the particles which spawned when the player's character moved wouldn't scale itself according to speed which would lead to funny looking particles when the character moved slowly. I've added a parameter to the particles so I can control the sprite scale of the particle dynamically.

Here is a video of the updated footstep particles:
